Continuous Hemofiltration in the Perioperative Management for Chronic Hemodialysis Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Shigeyuki Makino, Takane Hiraiwa, Toshihiko Kinoshita and Hideki Fujii (Department of Thoracic Surgery, Anjo Kosei Hospital, Aichi, Japan) Coronary artery bypass surgery was performed in 7 chronic hemodialysis patients. Hemodialysis and extracorporeal ultrafiltration methods were used during cardiopulmonary bypass, and continuous hemofiltration was performed in the early postoperative days in the intensive care unit. Water and electrolyte balances were successfully controlled in all patients, and hemodialysis was restarted after the second postoperative day. There were no perioperative complications and all patients are surviving. These methods of perioperative management for chronic hemodialysis patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery, especially consinuous hemofiltration in the early postoperative days, are considered safe and useful. Comparing Effects of Continuous Insulin Infusion with or without Subcutaneous Glargine Insulin on Glycemic Control in Diabetic Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
OBJECTIVE: Hyperglycemia is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients following coronary artery bypass grafting. Tight glycemic control in perioperative period can reduce these events. The goal of this study was to determine whether combination of continuous infusion and subcutaneous glargine as a basal insulin could improve glycemic control. MATERIAL AND METHODS:...
